It’s time for the next post in our interview series with The Most Interesting Travelers In The World! Today’s interview is with Barbara Wagner, whose wonderful blog can be found at www.jet-settera.com.

Barbara Wagner is an ex-model turned luxury travel and lifestyle blogger of www.jet-settera.com. She was discovered as a model at the age of 17 and she has been on the road since then. She lived and worked in Paris, London, Milan, New York, Tokyo, Salamanca, Spain and her hometown Budapest. She has visited 83 countries and lately she has been exploring countries of the ex-Soviet Union and the Middle-East. She has been to most countries in Europe and she has visited all the Seven Modern Wonders of the World. She is an avid fan of history and languages.

What inspired your love of travel – how did you get started?

I have been traveling non-stop since the age of 17. I was discovered as a model at that age and I started traveling between London, Paris, Milan, New York, Tokyo. I managed to make some money at a young age through modeling and I spent that money on traveling around Europe and Asia.

Tell us about your favorite style of traveling…luxury or budget? Packing heavy or light? On the go or laid back?

I have traveled luxury and I have traveled budget too. I have been on the road for over 10 years now and I prefer my own convenience, so I don’t travel budget any more. I always make sure I travel light.

What’s your favorite travel story: the weirdest, or funniest, or most exciting, or most beautiful trip you’ve ever been on?

I have traveled to 83 countries at this point. There are way too many stories to tell. Every trip has a funny story. One of the most beautiful trips I have ever been on was visiting el Nido, Palawan in the Philippines. I was staying on a private island in a beautiful bungalow right on the water. It is hard to describe it. You will have to see this place with your own eyes in order to believe it.

What advice do you have specifically for solo female travelers?

You should never be afraid to venture out and see the World. You can do this alone as well. You will make good friends along the road and explore some incredible places.

What would you say to encourage someone who wants to travel but is afraid to because of cost, time, etc.?

Traveling doesn’t have to be expensive and doesn’t have to take much time. I do many quick weekend trips to nearby European countries. I fly with a cheap airline and I stay one or 2 nights to see a new city or a country and then I return to my home base.

What are your top 3 tips for newbie or wanna-be travelers?

  1. Look for flight deals on the websites of cheap airlines and on secretflying.com.
  2. Travel, when most people don’t travel.
  3. Travel light and try to see as many places as you can on one trip. I usually cover 2-3 countries on a vacation.
